Bed Linens

So I've been really busy lately, cleaning house and getting things ready for the auction or a yard sale.

Had a brain storm today and thought I'd be sure to pass this one along. The closet in the bathroom has been straightened and straightened and then re-straightened which has driven me nuts. So here's an idea that I hope you like. Hang your sheets and pillow cases in a bedroom closet or for that fact in the closet of the room in which they will be used. I took hangers you know the kind you get when you buy pants or shorts from say Wal-Mart. Or just buy a few slack hangers. Fold the linens to the appropriate size for the hanger and then hang in the closet. No more mess in the linen closet (ok wishful thinking) and if you put the linens in the same room as where they will be used, then there is no searching when time to change them out.

Old Pomeroy-Mason Bridge

The new bridge stands parallel to the old Pomeroy-Mason Bridge with an estimated cost of $65-million dollars and taking 5 years to build. Ironically the cost to demolish the old Pomeroy-Mason Bridge is $1-million dollars.

My Car & The Love Hate Relationship!

In November I borrowed money against my settlement (car wreck in 2006)and purchased a "used" car (actually a salvage car). Well immediately I loved it, a nice little gas saver, Plymouth Breeze, the interior was pretty much mint condition, however seeing as it was salvage the driver side rear panel had damage. No biggie, I could live with that.

Just one week into owning the car and the water pump went out and locked up the engine. No warning whatsoever, we were driving down the road and the car just stopped. Having been a salvage car no warranties or guarantees about anything. The man I purchased it from did give me the motor but I had to pay for the labor $500+ dollars and it took 2 months.

So I was back to loving my little car, gas mileage great 400+ miles on a $25 fill-up.

One night I was pulled over for no license plate light. Come to find out it wasn't even wired up and had no place to wire it into. John, my man, an electrician fixed that easily.

There I was back to loving my little car again. Then one day, my windows quit working and how my windows being out should affect my AC or heat is beyond me. This time the problem was big, and John wouldn't touch it. Two days and $300 later my little car was fixed, wiring had to be replace from ignition to fuse box.

So once again I was back to loving my car, nice car for running around in. Comfortable ride, nice interior, and gas saver...for a while anyway, once again the windows are out and so is the AC and heat...ugh. And it has rained for days, so I can't drive my little car much unless it's not raining until once again I get it fixed.

Birthdays!

So Easter came and went and I didn't start blogging again til now. Boy have things been busy. There have been appointments, (I started donating plasma again for $55 a week-so it's not exactly donating), my daughter and I both had dentist appointments and now I need to go see an oral surgeon.

But the birthdays have taken up the most time, I really feel sorry for my "daughter-in-law" and son. They have been together for 4 years now and although they are not married have 2 children together plus she has a son from a previous relationship. So they have 3 children 5 years old and under and the birthdays are back to back. Mina turned 2 March 22nd; Kaylynn turned 1 April 22nd; and Kenny turned 5 May 2nd.

So there have been gifts to buy and Easter was thrown into the mix as well. I started right after Christmas buying things a little at a time and I put the items into a clear plastic tote (so I can see in it and put a lid on it too.) In the end I still have things left over you know for those surprise visits with the grand kids and the budget wasn't broken.

I have a collection of books from when my children were young(now 24 & 21 years old). I like unusual books, books that are durable, books with vivid colors...I like books. Ok, what's the problem? Just days into the new year and I'm having trouble sticking to my "new year's resolution". "Be true to myself". It's a lot harder than I ever imagined. Sometimes I am so sensitive and I knowingly make myself aware of this and yet I let it get the best of me. My feelings get hurt and my defenses go up and I find myself more worried about what others think than how this will affect me and how my reactions will thus affect others.

So first things first, I am not perfect! I am not perfect! Now what a relief, trying to be perfect isn't being true to myself and oh the strain it puts on me, no wonder I have anxiety issues.

I am really enjoying reading all the various blogs that I subscribe to, so ladies and gentlemen keep up the good work, and try this year to be true to yourself.

NEW YEAR'S ESOLUTIONS

With the passing of 2008 and the beginning of a new year there are many things to think about. The first and foremost being that of "New Year's Resolutions" of which in the past I have had, most without success. During the last few months of 2008 I learned what my resolution for 2009 should be.

So this year, I am going to be true to myself. True to myself? Yes, I am going to think about me and how what I do or say will affect my future as well as those whom are important to me.

You see this past year I learned that if you're not true to yourself then you let others run over you. I have for most of my life had a low self-esteem, I thought that I was "worthless" and needed to around people whom were "worse off" than me, however during that process I often let myself be run over being taken advantage of and putting myself into positions just so that I could have "friends" and companionship.

I know who I am, first and foremost I am a child of God, secondly I am a child (although I am an adult), I am a mother, a grandmother, a friend, and a soulmate. I am short (undertall), overweight (fat), smart, ambitious, organized, a writer, photographer, reader, scrapbooker, socializer, intervert and extrovert. I am a well rounded person, who has spent most of her life feeling inferior but now realizing that I'm not, I am like everyone else out there.

I need food, love, shelter, clothing, family and an assurance from myself that I am alright.

So as you face the new year don't set unobtainable resolutions. Just be true; to yourself and everything else will fall in line.

A few words

Not much going on here today. I slept in late and then was off to get a few things done. Went to my daughter's and then to my son's and I got to see his girls-well only 1 was awake and I enjoyed her so much. I went to the store and grabbed something for dinner. Burritos always a family favorite, feeds a lot of people and usually have leftovers.

It's amazing how much my children have grown up. My son is a responsible stay at home dad to his 2 girls and "step-son"; he's not married but they have been together since his "step-son" was 9 months old and he'll be 5 in May. The girls are his and they are 21 months old and 8 months old, they are exactly to the day and almost to the hour 13 months apart. He is doing a great job. His house cleaning abilities lack some and I don't know how he does it some days.

My daughter is a "wife"; not married either but no children and she loves it. She's just 21 and she doesn't work so she takes care of the house. By the time I had arrived at her house around 1:45pm she had already, washed the dishes, been to the gas station, cleaned the laundry room, done the laundry and cleaned the litter box out.

When did they grow up? Was I there? I can't remember...it seems like only yesterday.

HOMEMADE WINDOW CLEANER

Glass-and-window cleaner
About 7 pints cold water (108 ounces)

1/2 cup soapy ammonia

1 pint rubbing alcohol
Fill a 1- or 2-gallon bucket with the water. Carefully add the ammonia and rubbing alcohol.
Mix well and pour into spray bottles.
To distinguish this clear liquid from other cleaners, tint it with a drop or two of blue food coloring.

Window-cleaning tips. The frequency of your window-cleaning depends on where you live, but the inside surface of the panes usually needs cleaning twice a year. Wash windows on a cloudy day or when the windows are in shade because direct sunlight will cause streaking. If you live in a home with many windows, divide the job into segments rather than attempting to do them all in one day. You'll need two buckets, a sponge, a good-quality rubber squeegee, a clean, lint-free cloth or paper towels, a chamois cloth, and cleaner, either the one above or a store-bought product.
